There is a historical monument perched on the hills overlooking the ocean in my town. It was a gift from Korea to commemorate America's bicentennial in 1976.

The steps are guarded on each side.

Walking with the boys

There's a nature preserve not far from my house. It used to be military property, and was apparently a lookout point during World War II, but now it's public property and a pretty good place to go if you want to enjoy a mild hike and a view of the ocean.

I usually take the boys for walks there, although it now occurs to me that I have not yet introduced the boys to you, internet. So, here they are. In the interest of privacy, they get code names. The yellow lab is Joey (like the winner of this year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest) and the handsome stripey fellow is Rex, as in Tyrannosaurus Rex. I figure that these are appropriate, since Joey is a total chow hound and people who are not me seem to think that Rex is rather large.

There is a decent amount of foot traffic on the trails.

Also, snails.

Until whenever,

Steamers at sunset

I've been spending some time in Santa Cruz as of late. I brought my camera with me when I went down to Steamers Lane.

Campers: Nature's way of feeding mosquitoes.

I went camping in Three Rivers this past weekend. It was nice, but very hot.

Driving up the 99.

The sun was up and blazing by 7 am. It reached 90 degrees by about 9 am.

This is my boy. Yes, he does fit in the tent. Barely.

Cooking dinner.

The road home

I took some pictures on the first leg of the drive from my school in Northern California to my home in Southern California.
It's a long drive, so naturally coffee was required.

A pit-stop was made to take a look at a kitschy place that sold large wooden sculptures.

We stopped again later to get some produce from a road-side stand. There were a few cherries that were a bit... misshapen.

Later days,

Backyard Bio

I really should have something interesting or clever to write here. But I don't. So you get pictures instead.

A rose by any other name... will still stab the crap out of you if you aren't careful.

This guy has been hanging around lately. My mother has christened him Paco.

Until, um, whenever.

Oh, hey internet. Fancy meeting you here.

If you're reading this, you either got to this site by accident and will soon be clicking away to another part of cyberspace, or you are just as bored as I am. If the latter is the case, then hopefully this blog will be able to keep us both entertained, at least for a few minutes.

I suppose a brief introduction is in order. My name is Kai. (Well, not legally, but for the purpose of this blog it is. I prefer to keep some degree of anonymity, and really, for all I know, if you didn't get this link from me, you could be some kind of creeper. Besides, it's a cool name, right?) I'm home from my first year of college for the summer, and in need of something to keep me amused. A few weeks ago I was bemoaning to a friend the fact that I would probably go stir-crazy within a week of returning home, and he suggested that I start a photo blog. So he's the one you can blame for setting me loose upon the internet.

Anyway, basically I am going to attempt to photo document parts of my home town and various other places I may travel to in an effort to avoid sitting on the couch and staring at a wall all summer. Or the TV. Or the computer. Whatever, you get the idea.

So stick around. Things could get interesting. I mean, they probably won't, but hey, you never know. Stranger things have happened.
